Little treasures

A minha mãe anda em arrumações na garagem e isso significa que vamos descobrir pequenos tesouros! Ontem trouxe dois retalhos de tecidos de Natal (que vou usar para presentes), uma renda, um galão que me traz recordações e uma fita de cetim preta que vou usar para uns enfeites de uma festa…

My mother is cleaning up the garage and that means that we will find little treasures! Yesterday I brought two pieces of Christmas fabric (which I will use to present), a white and green lace, a ribbon that brings back memories and a black satin ribbon which I will use for embellishments for a party…

Update

Muito contente com as compras que fiz aqui. Já andava há um tempo para comprar uns pré cortados para me aventurar no patchwork. Penso que são boas soluções para os iniciados. O corte das peças pode ser uma dor de cabeça e assim aprendemos uma coisa de cada vez. A colecção Scrumptious da Moda Fabrics encantou-me porque gostei de quase todos os tecidos e acho uma boa opção para algo relativamente simples.

Para além disso comprei uns novelos em branco para uma manta em croché que ando a fazer, um pedaço de um tecido vermelho com motivos infantis que estava em promoção e outro de chita portuguesa à qual não consegui resistir, talvez para um saco!

Very happy with what I bought here. I've wanted to buy pre cut pieces for a while, to get into the patchwork. I think they are good solutions for beginners like me. The cutting can be a headache so, with pre cutter fabrics, we can learn by steps. The Scrumptious Collection by Moda Fabrics charmed me because I liked almost all of the fabrics and I think it is a good option for something very simple that I have in mind. 

I also bought some blank yarn for a crocheted blanket that I'm doing, a piece of red fabric with children's motifs that was on sale and a Portuguese Chita to which I could not resist, for a tote bag, maybe!

Cozy

Ainda sou uma novata no que diz respeito à costura mas agora que ganhei uma "melhor amiga" nesta área acho que vou começar a coser muito mais. Há tantos projectos lindos, à medida, para fazer! E basta colocar mãos à obra. É o que as coisas feitas à mão têm de fabuloso. Por isso, e para cultivar essa "amizade," comecei por lhe fazer um presente! Aqui está ele: uma capa a aconchegar a minha máquina de costura, oferecida pela minha tia avó, depois de ter desistido de coser e se ter entusiasmado com a minha tendência para usar as mãos.

Os tecidos são Robert Kaufman (Retro Sierra e Jewel Sierra) que comprei aqui.

I'm still a novice regarding sewing, but now that I won a "best friend" in this area think I'll start sewing much more. There are so many beautiful and simple projects to do!You just have to use your hands. It's why handmade things are fabulous. Therefore, and to cultivate this "friendship" I started by make "her" a present! Here it is: a cover for my sewing machine offered by my great aunt, after she gived up sewing and was admired by my tendency to use my hands.

Hello gorgeous!

Não é isto que queremos ouvir todos os dias ao acordar? Pois bem, havia um cantinho no meu quarto que estava mesmo a pedi-las e uma moldura do IKEA pela qual já tinham passado várias possibilidades sem destino certo. Inspirada por algumas imagens do pinterest acabei por conseguir um belo trabalho! 

Trabalhei as letras no computador e imprimi-as num tom muito leve. Depois pintei, literalmente, as letras com cola branca e um pincel normalíssimo. Por fim polvilhei tudo com purpurina prateada! Está simples e muito elegante, com o brilho que um sorriso sincero tem quando nos diz: "Hello gorgeous!"

This is what we want to hear every day when you wake up, isn't it? Well, there was a corner in my room that was asking for it, and a frame from IKEA without a soul. Inspired by some images from pinterest, I ended up with a great piece of art!

I worked the letters on the computer and printed them in a very light tone. Once printed I, literally, painted the letters with white glue and very normal brush. Finally I sprinkled all with silver glitter! It is simple and very elegant, with the brightness that an honest smile has when saying: "Hello gorgeous"!

Veg garden

Desde Maio que tenho uma hortinha em casa dos avós. Não sei se foi sorte de principiante mas tivemos uma quantidade bem generosa de coisas boas. A única coisa que não resultou por aqui foram os tomates que, em termo oficial, "arejaram"! De momento já se acabaram as curgetes que estão em força numa gaveta da arca frigorífica, a beterraba, a rúcula e a alface. Estamos a acabar de colher as espigas de milho de leite que são tão boas no grelhador e temos o alho francês e as abóboras a chegar ao ponto de serem apanhadas. Qualquer dia mostro fotografias!

Since May that I have a vegetable garden at my grandparents' house. Probably it was beginner's luck but we had a very generous amount of good things this spring and summer. The only thing that did not work here were the tomatoes! Currently the courgettes finished (some are in a freezer drawer to be used during winter) as well as beets, arugula and lettuce. We are just finishing harvesting the corn that are is so good on the grill, and we have the leeks and pumpkins getting to the point of being caught. I will show some photos some day!

Seeds of future

Com algumas ideias para o futuro, começo progressivamente, e nos meus tempos livres a debruçar-me sobre coisas novas. Até agora sentia que a minha curiosidade apenas me deixava vaguear mas hoje penso estar um pouco mais focada… O meu lema é ser "handmade".

With some ideas for the future, I started gradually,to dedicate in my free time to new things. Until now felt that my curiosity just let me ramble, but today I think I'm a little more focused … My motto is to be handmade.

Há novos rebentos por aí! Não tiver oportunidade de partilhar os meus presentes para a pequena S. Mas há um menino S que também acabou de nascer e para quem vou enviar um miminho. É um aprendiz de marinheiro este rapaz… Quero ver-te crescer!!

There are new shoots out there! I did not have the opportunity to share my gifts for the little S girl. But there's a S boy who also born few days ago and to whom I will send a little gift. It is an apprentice seaman this guy …  I want to see you growing up!!

Gone...

Tenho estado desaparecida. Foi de propósito. O assunto do meu último post tem sido uma grande tarefa para mim e levei a cabo muitas reflexões sobre o assunto. Felizmente, tantos sonhos que tive, parece começar a desenhar-se uma luz ao fundo do túnel. A vontade deste caminho de mudança foi também uma das razões para este blog. Se o meu trabalho não é aquilo que gostaria, o meu desejo de futuro tem muito que ver com as histórias que vou contando e fazendo crescer no Pads & Blankets. No entanto, a rigidez como o comecei… essa necessidade de postar semanalmente com regularidade... era algo que estava errado em mim noutros âmbitos da minha vida. E, por isso, foi algo que resolvi mudar. Esta pausa levou-me a perceber que tipo de coisas prefiro partilhar e de que forma. Estou pronta…

I've been missing. And it was on purpose. The subject of my last post has carried many reflections on the subject. Fortunately, between my dreams, seems that a light begins smile at the end of the tunnel. The will of those changes was also one of the reasons for this blog. If my work is not what I love, my desire for the future has much to do with the stories that I tell here, in my Pads & Blankets. However, as the way I started this… this need to post weekly with regularity... was something that was wrong with me in other areas of my life. And so, it was something that I decided to change.
