Shoots of spring

Temos vindo a planear desde o início do outono, uma pequena horta para consumo próprio num terreno  extra da família. E, depois do Sol ter espreitado finalmente, e da terra aquecido um pouco e evaporado tanta chuva que caiu este inverno, lá avançamos para a colocar este projecto em prática. 

Uma das coisas que queria muito com esta horta era poder ter algumas flores para corte de forma a poder ter sempre flores em casa. Para muita gente, este é um luxo, para outros um desperdício… para mim é trazer um pouco de natureza para dentro de casa. Se não puder ser sempre, pelo menos de vez em quando!

Since the beginning of autumn that we are planning a small garden for personal use. And after the sun had finally peeked, the earth warmed up a bit and the excess of water evaporated, it's time to put this project into practice. 
One of the things I really wanted with this garden was to have some flowers so I can always have some flowers for our home. For many people, this is a luxury, for others a waste… for me is to bring a bit of nature into the home. If not always, at least once in a while!

E esta é a altura dos bolbos serem devolvidos à terra. Por cá, os bolbos são sempre os mesmos e na maior parte não contemplam os meus favoritos… Os Portugueses não gostam muito de inovar e trazer coisas novas para o seu jardim mas eu recuso-me ceder aos gladíolos, narcisos e coroas de rei. Até as dálias, por cá são pouco originais e os crisântemos associados aos cemitérios. Contudo há muito mais variedade e, dentro dos crisântemos, há variedades de cortar a respiração!

A plantar que sejam as minhas favoritas, pensei. Por isso nesta primavera, procurei o mais que consegui por bolbos dos glamorosos Ranúnculos!

And this is the time to return bulbs to the soil. Here in Portugal, bulbs are always the same and usually do not include my favorites... The Portuguese people do not like to innovate and bring new things to their garden, but I refuse to give another chance to more and more gladioli, narcissus and chrysanths. Here, even dahlias are uninspired, and chrysanths are associated with cemeteries. However there is much more variety than the usually used and, within the chrysanths, there are breathtaking varieties! 
I will plant my favorites, I thought. So, this spring, I looked for those glamorous Buttercups (Ranunculus) bulbs!

 

Não foi fácil, e estava quase tentada a encomendar algures via Internet quando lá encontrei, num horto um pouco mais caro mas com uma variedade imensa. 

Nunca tinha visto os bolbos de ranúnculos! São tão diferentes, que deles já ouvi os comentários mais engraçados: "parecem aliens bebés!"

Devem ser plantados a partir de Março e até Maio. Estou ansiosa por acordá-los e ver os seus belos rebentos perto do verão!

It was not easy, and I was almost tempted to order somewhere in the internet until I found some in a garden shop, a little more expensive, but with a huge variety. 
I had never seen bulbs of buttercups! They are so different that I've heard the funniest comments about them like "seem alien babies!" 
They should be planted from March to May. I am eager to wake them up and see their beautiful buds near the summer!
